Topic: Stoicism and Mimetic Desire - What drives our desires?
In this session we will explore the concept of Mimetic Desire, a concept that originated with the French thinker, René Girard in the 1960’s. I’ve found this concept very interesting with strong ties to Stoicism and the discipline of desire. Luke Burgis is a modern day author who has made René’s work far more accessible.
Please do your best to consume the article and podcast prior to our meeting. I’ve also linked a book which I found very interesting, however this is completely optional future reading if the other content sparks an interest! We will have a short introduction, before opening the session up to a discussion on the topic more broadly.
